NOS Social Science Plan
At the request of the NOS Senior Management Council (SMC) the CORE team coordinated the development of an NOS Social Science Plan (SSP). A Social Science Team (SST) was formed including social scientists from across NOS Line Offices. In consultation with NOS Line Office and NOAA PPBES Program leadership, the members of the SST identified and prioritized social science projects to address relevant issues and information needs. A project database containing a wealth of information on each project was constructed, along with an FTE database to track NOS social science staff time and effort. From the information collected, a plan was written by the SST.

Social Science Team
In the development of the social science plan, the advantages of the database approach are twofold. First, the databases facilitate the quick compilation of information on NOS social science activities through a variety of pre-designed summary reports. Secondly, the NOS SSP gains a dynamic character, as the databases can be updated and used for internal planning and evaluation purposes in the future.
It is hoped that the NOS SSP will encourage the leveraging of NOS social science dollars by facilitating partnerships across NOS and NOAA and with external partners. A form for the submission of potential social science projects by interested partners is envisioned as a part of this site.
