Comparisons of Demographic Makeup

When analyzing a sample of the population, it is often helpful to know how the makeup of the sample as compared to whatever population one is working with. With this information one can weight the sample for use in analysis or perform a simple comparison. A report published in 1991 by NOAA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service collected data on recreational shellfishing in the United States as an Addendum to the 1985 National Survey of Fishing Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation published by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The table below shows the demographic breakout of Shellfishermen in comparison to the U.S. demographic characteristics.
